2011

We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year's Day.

Halfway up La Pedriza, Manzanares el Real, Sierra de Madrid. September 2010

I have no idea where I'll be after my Madrid contract ends in June...

Bring on the adventure.

Happy 2011!

Fuencarral Graffiti

Misspellings Madrid style

Hiya Starbucks

Homage to Spanish fashion 2

This bag is so tacky it's fabulous. This may just have to be my Christmas day accessory.

Followed by a weekend boarding in the snow...

Sierra Nevada
Indigneous tacky ornament

One Friday afternoon in Granada

The Alhambra was gorgeous... When I grow up I want to live in a palace although preferably with heating for winter...

Free bike rental in Juan Carlos

A very cool park full of sculptures and, unfortuntely for those on bikes, hills.

Free rental for an hour from either of the rental areas on production of passport or similar.
Metro: Campo de las Naciones and some walking / Alameda de la Osuna and some walking

Christmas is a coming!!

Tree in Sol. Design by Agatha Ruiz de La Prada. Awesome.

Cortylandia (the back of Corte Inglés off Sol).

It's the Spanish Brown Thomas Christmas windows (circa my youth when they were awesome), the British Harrods windows (Peter Pan this year, saw them a few weeks ago - v good) etc etc etc...

This year the animated figuirines seem to want to teach everyone about acceptance of dodgy accents.... Fortunately there wasn't an Irish figuirine :)

El Tigre

Saturday afternon shopping followed by cramming into El Tigre for drinks and tapas = perfection.
Drinks are super cheap and the food is free and in generous helpings.
Love it (especially just before pay day when poverty strikes)

Tuneage

Arcade Fire at Palacio de los Deportes. A. Ma. Zing.

Interpol - the weekend before - not so great. Good effort on Paul Wards part to practice his Spanish though.

I keep my reviews brief and to the point ;)

Cheap and delicious Chinese food opposite the entrance to an underground car park?

Not the most auspicious of opening gambits but I highly recommend it. Two of us at our fill for under 10e. Yum. The restaurant (Jia Xiang Xiao Chi) can be accessed via Plaza Espana. Expect to wait for a table...

I spy with my little eye something beginning with B...

Metro graffiti

Tunnel from Retiro metro to park

Skins graffiti seems slightly out of place here :)

Faro de Madrid

Went all the way to Moncloa so I could go up the glass lift of the Faro de Madrid communications tower.
Turns out it's been closed for renovation since 2005 if the website I'm reading is right. Damn you out of date 'Time Out Madrid'. Note to self - purchase updated edition.

Rollerblading at dusk

Hmm looks like I'm heading 'into the light' though...

Views from rooftops I

Vincci Vía 66. 9th and 7th floors.

Spent Monday night curled up on one of the 7th floor couches with Ecuador (and a jacket, scarf and snood). Brrr.
The camera on my phone is crap so I recommend heading there in person to enjoy the views.

If Brett lived in Madrid

...he would shop in this store.

Los Klaxons

Ecuador's birthday or the Klaxon's free show?
La proxima vez, chicos :(
