Animadrid - Animated Film Festival

Ventured into the Madrid suburbs today for Animadrid - the annual animated film festival hosted in Pozuelo (pause for useless celebrity fact - Ronaldo lives here).  Saw some adorable animated shorts which I enjoyed as much as the kids in the audience. Definitely worth a visit before it finishes next Thursday.

Particuar highlights from the screening I attended were;

The Gruffalo - I'd never seen this before. Adorable rhyming à la Dr. Seuss (that was lost in the translated subtitles for the Spaniards though)

Cukas Laime - This cracked me up. The city pigs visit the countryside for a holiday of carefully timed scoffing from the trough followed by dozing. The trough extending from the trunk of the car was genius. I love these little quirky details.

Wollmond - Funny little story about a determined grandmother knitting the moon an outfit. Unfortunately she doesn't take into account the moons changing shape...

The day a taxi driver shared useful information

Tonight's taxi driver, whilst of course inevitably insane, choose his conversation of choice well. Did you know that there are special machines you can buy in Spanish tobacco shops to make your own cigarettes and they are a mere 3 euros?! (This might be old news to the rest of the world)
Whilst I don't feel it was necessary to stop the taxi to demonstrate how they are made, it was nice of him to give me one which I thoroughly enjoyed after the initial 'oh what if its laced with rohypnol' conundrum. I think I've hit upon a genius import / export idea for when I have to return home to the land of a packet of cigarettes costing almost a tenner one day...

Gomaespuminglish

This always makes me laugh. Discovered the vid about 4 years ago when I lived in Seville and since then I've probably racked up at least 500 of these views!

Woke up to this outside my window courtesy of the upstairs neighbours. How very 'Room with a (crap) View'

'Yo no soy marinero'

Random ad I saw on TV that just cracked me up. After some you-tubing I found even more. I have idea what this Mixta drink is but I may just need to buy it. Hilarious.

I just found out celebrities live in my barrio

Well almost...

The 'Heavies' of Grand Vía are Madrid legends. Just mentioned to the roommates I keep seeing them on the street beside our house and according to them they live nearby. Now there's a house party I'd like to attend.  (hmmm I think....)

I previously wrote about the 'Heavies' here if you're wondering who the hell I'm going on about
