La Casa Encendida (aka Rooftops III)

I've been meaning to big up La Casa Encendida here for a while. Discovered it a couple of months back and it's fast becoming one of my favorite places in Madrid.

It's a cultural centre sponsored by the bank / credit union Caja Madrid and is full to the brim with interesting events, great short and feature length sceenings, exhibitons, free internet and... an AMAZING rooftop hangout area. Apparently from next month, they'll be showing movies there at night so I'll know where I'll be this summer.

Check out some snaps from the weekend, hung out in the garden and then headed to the screening of the somewhat bizarre Aardvark.

This picture doesn't really tell a thousand words...

...but it made me laugh

Le Cool Madrid

My favourite thing about Thursday mornings in work is when Le Cool Madrid arrives and I can change my desktop background for the week. It truly is the little things that count :P

Around Europe in 80 minutes

Parque de Europa in Torrejon de Ardoz is absolutely hilarious. Like Disney World but, I dunno, less music and more European monuments...

Visit. It even has a zip line swing. 3,50 a go. Bargain.

Belated Sol post

The protests in Sol are trickling to a close. Only the hardy few remain and I reckon they'll be gone by week end. Here are some pics I took during the first week when Sol was full to the brim. It evolved into a little village over time (mainly hippy types though, hard pressed to see a pijo about) and now it's finally coming to an end.

Not sure what they hope to have achieved but at least attention was drawn to the Spanish situation. Should shame politicians into doing something. That said, I feel pretty strongly that young Spaniards as a nationality lack 'get up and go' (huge generalistion but still...) Where I work, its not unusual to have late twenty somethings coming in with their parents for advice. Or parents coming in asking for advice for their 'nino' (of 20 something years hmmmm...)

Cut the cord and go abroad if the situation isn't better, apron strings have to be untied eventually.

Lectores / Lectoras (bad quality pic, sorry)
Cute :)

Shake your tail feather

Things you see in Madrid parks... Drug dealers, runners, rollerbladers, couples doing unspeakable things in the grass,and.... peacocks?
